MTSS (MULTI-TIERED SYSTEM OF SUPPORTS) AT DOWS LANE
Screening/ benchmarking:
All students are screened three times a year in literacy, math, and social emotional learning. We use multiple measures for screening and our data team reviews all of the data to best understand each child's learning.
Students are assessed by their classroom teachers and/or related service providers.
Identifying Students Based on Data:
After screening the entire school, our MTSS data team meets with teachers to review each child's learning and data. Students are identified if they have multiple data points that are failing or at risk at the grade level. Classroom teachers and related service providers offer consistent and clear communication with families about their child.
Multi-Tier supports
Tier 1 - all students, core instruction for all
Tier 1 plan - a specific intervention plan for a child who needs targeted intervention, above and beyond the classroom differentiated instruction
Tier 2 - intervention in a small group, typically pull out with a related service provider
Tier 3 - intervention in a small group, and sometimes 1:1 services, intensive and more frequent than Tier 2 services
Progress Monitoring:
Students in MTSS services have weekly and/or bi-weekly progress monitoring. Progress monitoring uses targeted assessments that are aligned with the student's intervention and intervention area of focus. Students work towards a specific goal to close the gap and advance their learning.
Data-Based Decisions:
Three times a year, we facilitate school data meetings. The Data Team, comprised of related service providers and administrators, and classroom teachers meet to talk about and review students' progress and their data.
In addition to three times a year, the MTSS team meets weekly to discuss students. Classroom teachers and/or related service providers communicate with families if their child is being discussed at a MTSS meeting. Student data and details about success and challenges are shared with families, to partner to best help support their child's learning.
Communication:
Clear, consistent communication with families and a strong partnership to best support students is vital. Calls, emails, and/or letters are sent to families when their child is identified as needing additional support. When a student enters a MTSS intervention group, the related service provider contacts the family in addition to the classroom teacher, so communication can continue while the student receives services.
At any time, families can contact classroom teachers and/or related service providers. All Irvington gmail accounts are the staff member's first name followed by a period and their last name @irvingtonschools.org.
