Dows Lane Honored With WEN Award
Dows Lane Elementary School has been honored with an award by the Westchester Employment Network for its contribution in furthering employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
Principal Dr. Andrea Kantor and human resources personnel assistant Lisa Tortora were instrumental in hiring an individual who was supported by Search for Change, an organization that works to create employment for individuals with emotional, social and economic barriers.
“Enveloped into the Dows Lane community, our newest staff member was treated with kindness and respect,” Dr. Kantor said. “Learning the routines of the position and systems in the school, the new employee embraced the work, our students and staff. Feeling a sense of purpose and belonging helps to improve one’s quality of life. It is a partnership we are very proud of and one that benefits all of our children and staff at Dows Lane.”
Each year, the Westchester Employment Network recognizes businesses who have incorporated the talent of persons with disabilities by including them as part of their workforce.
Dows Lane was nominated by Search for Change and will be honored with the award during the annual Westchester County National Disability Employment Awareness Month celebration on Oct. 7. In addition, Dr. Kantor and Tortora will be honored at a breakfast hosted by Search for Change on Oct. 27.
