Fifth Graders Create Constellation Models
As part of their “Patterns of Earth and Sky” unit in science, Main Street School fifth graders are creating hands-on models of the Great Square of Pegasus. They worked in small groups to complete their projects and answer the investigation question of, “Where are the stars in space?”
“The students’ big takeaway from this investigation is that the stars are very far away from Earth in every direction,” fifth grade teacher Loren Holand said. “Because the stars are so far away, we see them as different patterns and shapes, but in reality, even the stars that appear to be close together are many light years away from each other.”
