Dows Lane Elementary School students were thrilled to welcome Corey the Dribbler, a former Harlem Globetrotter and renowned youth motivational speaker, for an unforgettable assembly. Through his engaging storytelling, Corey inspired the students with lessons on respect, perseverance and the power of learning from challenges.
"Everything Corey shared aligns with our character education work and commitment to nurturing students to be courageous learners within our Portrait of a Graduate,” Principal Dr. Andrea Kantor said.
The assembly was made possible through the dedication of school counselor Alissa Campbell, who coordinated the experience using funding from the BOCES Arts-in-Education program.
“Corey emphasized the importance of respecting others and persevering,” Campbell said. “He shared how in the beginning he struggled with basketball tricks, but didn’t quit, and eventually earned a spot with the Harlem Globetrotters. Every time he asked the students if they thought he should give up, they gave a resounding ‘no’ with excitement. His overall message was to never give up on your dreams.”
Known as the world's greatest dribbler, Corey holds a Guinness World Record for dribbling six basketballs at once.
