  • New York State has developed a CR-S (Culturally Responsive-Sustaining) Framework to guide school districts in this important work.  CR-S education is grounded in a cultural view of learning and human development in which multiple expressions of diversity

( e.g., race, social class, gender, gender identity, language, sexual orientation, nationality, religion, ability, neuro-diversity) are recognized and regarded as assets for teaching and learning.

There are four focus areas for school districts to focus on which include:

    • Welcoming and Affirming Environment
    • High Expectations and Rigorous Instruction
    • Inclusive Curriculum & Assessment
    • Ongoing Professional Development

The Irvington UFSD is committed to providing students with a welcoming and affirming environment for all students that celebrates and supports multiple expressions of diversity.  This includes providing students with access to diverse texts and learning experiences, assemblies and partnerships with local community organizations such as Welcoming Schools,  GLSEN and the Holocaust and Human Rights Center.   Teachers have opportunities to participate in professional learning to support commitment to the work while continuing to use  the CRSE framework as our  foundation.
