Updated Senior Information - 5/29/2020

  • Dear Seniors and Families,

We continue to be very proud of you, Class of 2020! The pandemic has brought challenges to this special time--a time when we celebrate so many wonderful accomplishments. However, this time has also given us greater perspective, strength and appreciation!

We continue to work closely with our Senior Class Officers, PAC, PTSA, District Leadership, the IEF, Booster Club, iASK- CAB, our Village, the Irvington Police Department, the Recreation and Parks Department, Bridge Street Properties and all of our community partners to plan and offer special end of year opportunities and experiences.

Today's communication reviews much of the information that was shared in earlier blasts: April 29thMay 8th and May 15th and it also contains new information, updates and greater details. An important update we would like to highlight is that after reconnecting with various community partners, we were able to shift the start-time of our Graduation Car Parade on June 20th from 9am to 10am.

There are a number of items that require action. Please review this blast carefully and please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

    Many thanks,

    Ms. GM

Prom: Unfortunately, this year we are unable to host a traditional prom. Upon review of the Senior Survey and following up with senior class officers, the collective feedback we have received is that a virtual alternative is not desired.

Senior Class officers will coordinate with Ms. Ippolito, the Senior Class Advisor, to host a class-wide Kahoot! on Wednesday, June 10th. Ms. Ippolito and Senior Class Officers will share details on the Seniors Class of 2020 Google Classroom page.

Senior Awards & Scholarships: A list of students receiving Senior Awards and Scholarships will be shared with the community via a blast on Tuesday June 9. This will also be highlighted in the Graduation Video, and awards will be handed out at our Live Graduation Car Parade on June 20th.

Live Graduation Car Parade Event June 20th!!!
Students and their families are asked to arrive at the Riverfront lot at 10am (1 car per family). In partnership with the Irvington Police Department, there will be a car parade on Main Street and up Heritage Hill where celebrants and their families can see the beautiful personalized lawn signs that create our outdoor photo gallery. Students will pick up diplomas, Senior and Athletic Awards, personalized cupcakes sponsored by the IEF and goodie-bags provided by iASK- CAB while being cheered on by teachers and staff as they drive through! IPD will send cars in small waves from the lot, up Main Street and up Heritage Hill to school. We ask for everyone's patience and cooperation. It was important to our students that all cars arrive together so that the class is one at this special time.

PTSA members and a number of parents and students in NHS will help decorate Main Street and the campus for our exciting Graduation Car Parade! Photographers and videographers will be on hand to capture these special moments, which will be highlighted in our Graduation Video. The video will be released at approximately 8pm on June 20th! Mr. Davin Milun has also generously volunteered to capture each graduate's moment receiving their diploma via our Graduation Drive-through Car Parade and share them with all of us! The IEF is also sponsoring a live stream of our Graduation Car Parade for all near and far to enjoy. A link to view the live stream will be available on the landing page of the high school website at 10am for all to enjoy!

Graduation Video: As mentioned above, IHS will also celebrate commencement with a Graduation Video that will be shared with the community on Saturday, June 20th at approximately 8pm. The video will be available for all to view on the high school website landing page!

    STEP ONE:
Decorate Cap - Once you receive your cap, please get creative in customizing it! Decorations, quotes, and/or message must be school appropriate

Ms. Ippolito and your class officers are working on a fun way to connect via Instagram around this exciting activity and they will share more information directly with you through the Seniors 2020 Google Classroom page. Thank you in advance! Please click on the image below for some ideas.

Personalized Signs: In partnership with PTSA and the Booster Club we have worked together to create an opportunity to honor our students by creating personalized lawn signs, which will create a Senior Portrait Gallery to celebrate the Class of 2020 that will be displayed on Heritage Hill Road on
June 20th. Students will be able to have their signs as a keepsake after our Graduation Event.

Yearbooks:  The Herff Jones Yearbook production plant recently reopened. Due to the pandemic, school closure, and closure of the Herff Jones facility, the high school has decided to have this year's book shipped to home addresses at no extra cost to students. Our distributor has informed us that estimated shipment of the book will be August 1st. You should receive your copy of the book no later than August 15th.

If you have moved or need to make adjustments to your shipping address, please contact Mr. Resendiz at martin.resendiz@irvingtonschools.org by June 12th 2020.

If you have any questions or concerns after June 12th. Please contact our Yearbook Order Center at at 866-287-3096 or email at yearbookordercenter@herffjones.com

Looking Ahead: In the event that Governor Cuomo provides school districts with the ability to host a traditional, live graduation ceremony at a future date, the IHS and District leadership teams would meet to explore that potential opportunity.
