Dear Rising Seniors and Families,
There are a number of ways students are leaders at and beyond IHS. Some students serve as club officers, leaders in community organizations, captains of athletic teams, Student Council representatives, and much more. Student leaders are also around us every day in our classrooms, hallways and shared spaces!
In recognition of this, the purpose of this email is to share two additional leadership opportunities you will have as a senior: serving as a Peer Leader or as a Character Building Facilitator (CBF). These opportunities are for any senior who already demonstrates leadership skills or for a senior who has aspirations to develop leadership skills.
YOU MAY APPLY FOR ONE OR BOTH OF THE FOLLOWING. ONE DOES NOT PRECLUDE THE OTHER. YOU MUST SUBMIT ATTACHED FORMS TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THE 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR:
_____ Peer Leadership - In this leadership role, 33 students will participate in a half a credit class with teacher advisors to develop activities designed to support the incoming 9th graders' transition to Irvington High School life and support the Irvington School District Character Building Framework at the high school throughout the year. This would need to fit into your schedule and is only open to seniors.
_____ Character Building Facilitation (CBF) - In this leadership role, students will collaborate with middle school staff to work with middle school students grades 6-8 to design instructional activities inspired by the Irvington School District Character Building Framework. You can earn up to 120 hours of Community Service. Please apply again if you served as a CBF in your junior year.
Attached you will find the IHS Leadership Benefits/Rewards and Selection Criteria. Additionally, to complete this application, you must fill out the attached Leadership Application questions. Note that if you are applying to be a Peer Leader, there is an additional document entitled Peer Leadership Agreement, which must be read, signed, and included with your application.
If you have any questions related to the application, please contact
The Committee Selection Process for CBF and Peer Leadership will include administration and advisor review of completed applications, teacher recommendation (which you do not have to get, advisors will elicit teacher feedback), and advisor/peer interview for Peer Leadership.
***Applicants for Peer Leadership will be scheduled for an interview between April 22nd and May 6th. Interview appointments will be assigned after the due date of April 17th. Please check your school email daily and reach out to Ms. Forman, Mr. Lund or Ms. Pappalardi if you have any questions.
Notification regarding status as a Peer Leader or CBF for next year will be communicated in early June.
We look forward to reading your applications and wish you all the best for your leadership endeavors!
Many thanks,
Ms. GM
