IHS Asian American Club Hosts Celebration

The Irvington High School Asian American Club hosted a celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander culture last week. Students enjoyed snacks, movies, origami demonstrations, and trivia. The celebration culminated in a food festival that included foods like mochi, kimbap (Korean sushi), and hi-chew candy.

Jackie Grant, the club adviser, explained that the Asian American Club was started this year by Irvington sophomore Olivia Lui and has been a wonderful addition to the IHS community.

“This year, we have hosted screenings of Studio Ghibli films, held discussions about the rise of anti-Asian sentiment in America, and brought in yummy homemade snacks representing different aspects of Asian American culture,” Grant said.

This was the club's inaugural year and they are already planning events for next year that will extend outside of school and allow for more community involvement.
