Fifth Graders Visit the Hudson River Museum
As part of their Patterns of Earth and Sky unit, the fifth grade visited the Hudson River Museum as an enrichment experience. During the trip, students participated in a planetarium show, “The Sky Tonight,” where they received a tour of the night sky as seen from our area. Topics ranged from visible planets and bright stars, to seasonal constellations, to upcoming rocket launches.
Many commonly known constellations, or asterisms, were identified in the sky, and students learned that stories are told about the same stars in different countries around the world. The show also highlighted astronomical events that occurred in 2022, including a fall eclipse, which was partially visible from New York, and looked ahead to some of the highlights of 2023.
