Third Graders Discuss Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Importance

Third graders from Dane Sannicandro’s class learned about the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during a lesson in the Dows Lane library. Students were asked to think about the contributions Dr. King made to society. The class then participated in a “turn and talk” and class conversation where they shared examples of what people could do to treat others fairly. This discussion was followed by a read aloud using the text “Happy Birthday, Martin Luther King” by Jean Marzollo.

Finally, the lesson focus was reiterated to emphasize that Dr. King was an important figure who helped change how we live.
