Having read “Parrot & Firefly” during the annual World Read Aloud Day, Dows Lane Elementary School students connected with the book’s author, Jules Murphy, during a virtual assembly on Feb. 5.
Murphy provided the students with a glimpse into her journey as a writer and the process of writing and illustrating books. She shared how she finds inspiration for her books, where she gets ideas from and answered students’ questions about how long it took her to write “Parrot & Firefly.”
“The children connected to her, and now that all 510 students heard the book, it was another layer of literacy and understanding about friendship, teamwork and showing grit when something is hard – everything we teach at Dows Lane,” Principal Dr. Andrea Kantor said.
