Counselors Foster Freshman Success Through Mindfulness and Goal Setting
Irvington High School counselors took an active role in supporting the well-being and academic development of ninth grade students during their English classes on Sept. 19. Through a guided mindfulness activity, the students were encouraged to enhance their self-awareness and manage stress – important skills especially valuable during the transition into high school.
After the mindfulness session, the counselors led the students through the Individualized Progress Review, a process that enabled the students to reflect on their academic achievements, set personal goals and identify areas for growth. Later in the fall, the counselors will meet with each ninth grader for one-on-one meetings to review their IPRs in depth. These personalized meetings will give students the opportunity to discuss their progress and develop a personalized plan for success throughout their high school journey.
