Main Street School Fifth Grader Wins 24 Game Math Tournament
Main Street School students competed in the annual 24 Game math tournament, which is a challenging competition based on math facts, in their school’s auditorium on June 11. During the educational card game, nine fourth grade and seven fifth grade finalists competed by using all four numbers on any given card to make the answer 24. After several rounds, fifth grader Kiran Gimenez was named winner of this year’s tournament.
“This is a wonderful game for pattern sensing, problem solving and mental math,” Principal Joyce Chapnick said. “The 24 Game is also a game in which schools and students can embrace the spirit of competition through mathematics.”
In addition to Gimenez, the following students were finalists in the schoolwide 24 Game tournament: fourth graders Zach Brandstaedter, Ashley Ceresnak, Jacob Daniels, Matilda Feil, Derek Li, Jack O’Hanlon, Audrey Sherwin, Drexel Styburski and Abby Tropp; and fifth graders Juliette Duke, Abigail Gerson, Ansh Menon, Addie Rosato, Arjun Varanasi and Jacob Wolkoff.
Special thanks to the District’s K-5 math and science instructional coach, Molly Stern, for organizing and facilitating the event, and to the proctors Christine Andrasko, Scott Andrasko, Cristina Fiol and Lisa Gervasi.
