Second Graders Spread Warmth With Project Linus Donation

In a heartwarming community service initiative, second graders from Kari Carlson’s class at Dows Lane Elementary School donated blankets to children in need. The thoughtful project, spearheaded by Irvington High School freshman Jonah Tubman and his mother Meg Tubman, introduced the students to the mission of Project Linus.

Having taught Jonah in second grade and now instructing his younger sister, Carlson said the experience was special for her students, but it also left a lasting impression on her. The Tubmans shared insight into Project Linus and explained how the organization provides handmade blankets to children facing challenging circumstances in hospitals, shelters and social service agencies across the nation.

“We made four blankets to donate to Project Linus,” Carlson said. “We tied knots around the edges of the soft cozy fleece blankets, which will be distributed locally.”

The project showcased the students’ compassion and fostered a sense of empathy and responsibility.
