Principal's Welcome

  • Welcome to Main Street School’s homepage.  Situated right on Main Street, we are the original school building in Irvington established in 1913 and consider ourselves an important part of the history and beautiful landscape of this small river town.

At MSS, we value the individual gifts and talents that children bring to school each and every day. We offer students opportunities to share them in our classrooms daily, as well as through extracurricular activities. We have high expectations for all children and are committed to the academic, social and emotional growth of our students. Daily instruction at MSS includes a 90 minute English Language Arts block, a 60 minute math block (Engage New York) as well as science and social studies instruction, based on the Next Generation Science Standards and the New York State Social Studies Framework. Each week students receive instruction in physical education, art and music in addition to library skills and STEM.  Our students participate in Project Lead the Way, a STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) program. Through pathways in computer science, engineering and biomedical science, students in PLTW learn problem-solving strategies, critical and creative thinking, and how to communicate and collaborate. We offer all students an opportunity to participate in band, chorus and orchestra.

Partnerships play a critical role in our school district. The support of the PTSA and IEF (Irvington Education Foundation) provides our students with experiences that deepen their knowledge and understanding of the arts as well as other special programs.

Although I might be somewhat biased. . . there is no question that Main Street School is a special place, one where the love of learning and being a community that cares for one another, along with the world around us is at the heart of our school.

    Thank you for visiting us!
