Third Graders Earn NYS Student Achievement Award

Dows Lane Elementary School third graders Violet Powers and Jayanth Krishna Chandran were awarded the New York State 2022 Student Achievement Award during a ceremony on June 2. They were recognized for their grit, determination and academic achievement before an audience of staff, administrators, classmates and family.

Violet is described as a thoughtful and tenacious student, who cares for her friends and her academic learning.

“This year, Violet showed her determination and grit as she continued to excel in reading,” Principal Dr. Andrea Kantor said. “Her love for reading and books was evident in book talks and schoolwork. Violet even recommended books to her friends. Her hard work, dedication to her learning and unstoppable grit exemplify everything we are striving to instill in our students.”

Jayanth is described as a kind, diligent and hardworking student who participates in class, helps his peers and has a laser focus on his academics. He has a positive attitude towards learning and strives to do his best in everything.

“When working with a partner or group, Jayanth supports others and excels in his own work,” Dr. Kantor said. “He participates in class discussions and always listens to others. Jayanth extends comments to peers and always adds an interesting idea to the group. Jayanth is a role model for all Dows Lane students.”
