Students Compose Original Piece to Demonstrate Understanding of ‘Hamlet’
A group of high school students recently performed a musical interpretation of William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” as part of an assignment in Jackie Grant’s Advanced Placement Literature class.
Grant said the students were challenged to demonstrate their understanding of a text of their choice in a creative way. Sebastian Ramos-Roux, a senior, composed an original piece to reflect conflicts and characters in “Hamlet” and performed it with seniors Caleb Gilbert and Reginald Gordon and juniors Joseph Song and Mary Cuff.
“The purpose of the assignment, which all students were given, was to allow the students to work with the texts in nontraditional ways to explore their own creativity while demonstrating their understanding of literary devices and themes,” Grant said.
Other projects included original paintings, stories, tarot cards and songs.
