‘Around the World’ Brings Literacy Fun to Dows Lane

Kindergarten through third grade students at Dows Lane Elementary School were treated to a special interactive performance when they welcomed Lou Del Bianco, a master storyteller, singer and actor, to their school on Jan. 17.

During the schoolwide “Around the World” assembly, Del Bianco invited students onstage to help him dramatize “Anansi the Spider,” a West African folktale.

“All students sang, made hand motions, danced and added to the interactive production,” said Principal Andrea Kantor, adding that the assembly directly connected to the school’s literacy units and character education work. “All of our students and staff enjoyed the production.”

Del Bianco’s visit was organized by teachers Paul Manzi and Laurel Warager, and funded thanks to a generous grant from the Irvington Education Foundation.
