Irvington Middle School and Irvington High School students celebrated Red Ribbon Week, the oldest and largest drug abuse prevention campaign in the country, from Oct. 26-30. They participated in a variety of events designed to bring awareness to the dangers of drug use and to increase drug prevention efforts in their schools and community.
“The Red Ribbon Week theme this year inspired young people to be happy, brave and drug-free,” said Danielle Gamar, Student Assistance Counselor and Prevention Coordinator at the middle and high schools. “The students were encouraged to renew their commitment to a healthy lifestyle and expressed their positive, healthy choices during this important week of prevention.”
Throughout the week, students, faculty and staff wore red ribbons as a way to renew their commitment to a healthy lifestyle, while students further showed their support by making pledges to engage in healthy behaviors. Thanks to the generous support of iASK-CAB, the middle and high school campus was decorated with red ribbons on trees, as well as door handles and benches in the quad.
