Dows Lane Students Recognized for Their Kindness
Dows Lane Elementary School second grader Abigail Tropp and third grader Aiden Burke were awarded the New York State Office of the Attorney General Triple “C” Award during a ceremony at the school’s blacktop on May 3. They were recognized for their courage, character and commitment.
Abigail is described as a kind and thoughtful student who cares for her friends and peers. In the classroom, she helps distribute materials, pencils and papers and is always willing to help others in the classroom and on the playground. She can be counted on for a quick smile and kind words. In addition to her thoughtfulness in school, Abigail grew her hair long to donate it to Locks of Love and help a child in need.
“Abigail’s outstanding courage and character in and outside of school is commendable,” Principal Dr. Andrea Kantor said. “She represents everything good that we try to instill in our children every day.”
Aiden is described as a charming and thoughtful student who looks out for his friends when they are in the classroom and on the playground. He also makes sure to include everyone, and if someone is standing alone, he is the first to go up to them and ask if they want to play. As a new student to Dows Lane last year, Aiden arrived with a friendly, happy disposition and quickly made friends and acclimated to the new school.
“Aiden can often be seen sharing a story with friends that makes them laugh,” Dr. Kantor said. “His smile is infectious to others, and he lifts the spirits of everyone around him. He has a positive attitude towards learning and strives to do well on all tasks. Aiden values hard work, respect and kindness, and those character traits are exemplified in school every day.”
During the ceremony, the students were recognized before an audience of classmates, teachers, administrators and family members.
