Dows Lane Students Explore Mindfulness and Movement through Yoga, Wellness, and Literacy Program

Students in grades K-3 at Dows Lane Elementary School took part in a unique “Yoga, Wellness, and Literacy” experience during the week of October 6–10. The program, led by librarian Gina Samaniego in collaboration with Inner Being Yoga, LLC, invited students to connect mindfulness, movement, and storytelling in a fun and meaningful way.

Karen Faulkner, CEO and Founder of Inner Being Yoga, explained that the goal of the program is to help young learners develop self-awareness, emotional regulation, and literacy skills through an integrated approach. Students participated in interactive sessions that combined yoga poses, breathing exercises, and narrative experiences designed to spark creativity and reflection.
The lessons were intentionally structured around the principles of Project-Based Learning (PBL), encouraging students to think deeply, collaborate with peers, and engage both body and mind. Through this immersive experience, Dows Lane’s courageous learners explored big ideas while building a foundation for lifelong wellness, empathy, and emotional balance.
