Important Update on Face Mask Requirements - June 6, 2021
On Friday, Governor Cuomo made statements regarding a change in the requirement for students and staff members to wear face coverings on school grounds. These comments then led to numerous media outlets reporting that the requirement will be lifted tomorrow, Monday, June 7th. However, this is not correct.
Schools must follow written guidelines issued by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH). At this time, the NYSDOH has yet to issue any change in requirements. Additionally, today a representative from the Governor’s office confirmed that there is no change in NYSDOH guidelines and masks must continue to be worn at all times on school grounds.
Therefore, the District confirms that there is no change in the requirements to wear face masks in the Irvington UFSD. All students and staff members are required to continue to wear face masks at all times while on school property or at school-sponsored events.
Should there be any changes in requirements, Dr. Harrison will appropriately notify the school community.
