Artist Visits VIP Program
Irvington parent and artist Krista Williamson visited the Vocational Independence Program to help students create a project using clay. The VIP Art Program explores issues of personal identity and the world in which we live. Students explore how artists create artwork inspired by their experience.
The VIP is an 8:1+1 program for students with moderate to severe disabilities that is within the Irvington Middle/High School campus. Students within the program are working toward their Skills and Achievement Commencement Credential by taking the NYS Alternate Assessment.
“We decided on making a mug which would be functional as well as reflective of the individual artist themselves,” Trish Lyons, VIP art teacher, said. “We can’t thank Krista enough for spending time with us!”
“I was so excited to have the opportunity to work with the VIP community doing something that I love: teaching and making art,” Williamson said. “Having a neighbor involved in the VIP program opened my eyes to the wonderful experiences these students get to have. I’m honored to have been invited to share my love of art and education with them.”
