19 Students Receive Awards for Humor and Joy
Irvington High School is pleased to announce its Core Value Award winners for the month of September in the category of Humor and Joy. The awards were given out to 19 deserving students, who were celebrated by Principal Juliet Gevargis-Mizimakoski and Assistant Principal Matthew Samuelson during a ceremony on Oct. 2.
The students – Gabriela Barreto, Maria Bazdekis, Paul Biaggi, Eadin Block, Sadie Carelli, Aine Cleary, Anshuman Das, Joseph DeLuca, Brycen Dewalt-Williamson, Elisha Edme, Luciana Forte, Paul Galano, Fiona Goldman, Aliya Huprikar, Zoe Jacobs, Lucas Monness, Shelby Richardson, Aidan Sullivan and Isaac Turano – were recognized for positively influencing the school culture and community.
“Those students who can persevere through the tough opening days and still bring a little warmth and happiness to the classroom are immeasurably important to our culture and building climate,” Samuelson said. “Their joy is infectious, and we all benefit.”
The Core Value Awards were created to celebrate students who demonstrate 21st-century dispositions and habits of mind that are critical for their success in school and in life. Each month, teachers consider a different character trait – humor and joy, empathy, global and community view, perseverance, imagination and creativity, collaboration, leadership, responsible risk-taking and subject excellence – and select students who they feel exemplify that quality.
