New Financial Literacy Course at Irvington High School
Irvington High School’s new Financial Literacy course is off to a strong start, with students diving into engaging lessons that connect values, experiences, and even social media to everyday financial decisions.
Math teacher Anthony DiBenedetto kicked things off with the Bean Game, challenging students to allocate a limited “income” across housing, transportation, recreation, and more — sparking conversations about priorities and trade-offs.
In another activity, students took a stand in the “Four Corners” exercise, responding to statements like “Money can buy happiness” and “I feel confident making decisions with money.” The discussions encouraged respectful debate, self-reflection, and new perspectives.
Though just beginning, the course is already inspiring thoughtful dialogue about money management and decision-making — skills that will benefit students well beyond the classroom.
