Third Graders Bring Biographies to Life
Dows Lane Elementary School third graders have been immersed in the inspiring stories of different individuals over the last few weeks as part of a biography unit. Each student carefully selected a person to research and explore their life and accomplishments.
From Simone Biles to Charles Darwin, Amelia Earhart, Queen Elizabeth, Henry Ford, Benjamin Franklin, Frida Kahlo, Martin Luther King Jr., Shaquille O’Neal, Michelle Obama, Mister Rogers and Taylor Swift, the students presented their chosen biographies to their peers in a clear and engaging manner.
The activity seamlessly aligned with the district’s Portrait of a Graduate, which aims to create courageous learners, effective communicators, engaged citizens and self-aware individuals.
“Our students have worked hard on practicing what information they want to present and how they want to present it to the class,” teacher Andrea Plunkett said. “Furthermore, their classmates are invited to be effective communicators by being active and responsive listeners. This biography project is an opportunity for our third graders to be engaged in their learning and be effective communicators while learning about the world and people around them.”
