Second Graders Explore Nonfiction Through Scavenger Hunt

Second graders at Dows Lane Elementary School participated in a text feature scavenger hunt as part of their nonfiction literacy unit in Mike McQuillan and Crystal Raymond’s class. The hands-on activity served as an extension to a lesson, where the students learned about the different text features commonly found in nonfiction books and their main purposes.

During the scavenger hunt, the second graders worked independently to apply their knowledge and label the different text features. The interactive activity strengthened the students’ understanding of nonfiction text structures and encouraged critical thinking and independence.
