Ambulance Visit Inspires Dows Lane Students
Dows Lane Elementary School students recently welcomed the Irvington Volunteer Ambulance Corps for an exciting educational visit. They explored the inner workings of an ambulance, learned about emergency medical support and discovered the roles of other community helpers.
Principal Dr. Andrea Kantor partnered with Captain and Chief Officer Lucas Isola, who is also a parent of a Dows Lane student, to organize the meaningful experience.
"Students were captivated by the ambulance, flashing lights and sirens and were eager to meet the emergency medical team," Dr. Kantor said. “Our goal was to teach children about emergency support and calm any fears of an ambulance in the event of an emergency."
The engaging event connected to the district’s Portrait of a Graduate, as students practiced the qualities of engaged citizens while learning about contributions of local first responders.
"We were honored to share the work our volunteer EMTs do in the Irvington community, and the students of Dows Lane were excellent participants,” Isola said.
