Two Seniors Named to All-State Festival Ensemble
Irvington High School students Richard Ackerman and Chaeil (Robert) Yun have earned a spot in the prestigious New York State School Music Association’s All-State Festival.
While the talented students will not assemble to rehearse and perform during the winter conference in December, which has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, they will perform in the ensemble virtually.
“We are so incredibly proud of Richard and Robert,” Principal Juliet Gevargis-Mizimakoski said. “This year, NYSSMA is planning to assemble the All-State ensembles in a virtual format that will be recorded as their 2020 virtual All-State concert. It will feature each of the All-State ensembles in performance.”
Ackerman and Yun have been playing the viola and participating in the district’s string program since fourth grade. During their musical careers, they’ve been selected to participate in several area All-State and All-County music ensembles, as well as various non-scholastic and advanced ensembles throughout the region.
