Main Street School Fourth Graders Become Heartbeat Detectives

Fourth graders at Main Street School had an exciting visit from Nurse Alexandra Francis, who helped them become Heartbeat Detectives. Students learned how to use stethoscopes to listen to their own heartbeats while deepening their understanding of the circulatory system.

As part of the new Arts & Letters literacy program, students are continuing Module 1, “What Makes a Great Heart?” through reading The Circulatory Story by Mary K. Corcoran. They are exploring how figurative language and illustrations can make complex scientific concepts easier to understand.
This interactive lesson reflects the district’s Portrait of a Graduate attributes — encouraging students to be courageous learners who ask questions, explore how their bodies work, and act as engaged citizens by learning from professionals in the community who dedicate their lives to keeping others healthy.
