Chorus Students Delight Audience at Winter Concert
Talented members of the Irvington Middle School’s and Irvington High School’s choirs performed a varied repertoire and arrangement of holiday classics during their winter chorus concert on Dec. 10.
During the concert, members of the middle school Chorus performed “California Dreamin’,” “Various Themes on ‘Fa-La-La’” and “This is Me” from “The Greatest Showman,” accompanied by soloists Gabby Brenner and Caitlin Kropp.
“The middle school Chorus students did a wonderful job,” middle school choral director Stephen DiGiovanni said. “They performed with enthusiasm, musicality and maturity. The students especially enjoyed performing the variations piece with the added choreography. The audience really enjoyed watching the students move onstage and also enjoyed hearing the classic tune ‘California Dreamin’.’”
The high school Chorale performed “Psallite,” “Ríu ríu chíu” and “S’vivon,” along with soloists Maxwell Riseman and Amra Jean and percussion by Rudolph Guchoe and Matthew Davies. The high school Concert Choir performed “Chanukah, O Chanukah,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “Yo le canto,” “Lullaby” from Three Nocturnes and “You Will Be Found” from “Dear Evan Hansen.” Soloists included Paul Biaggi, Miriam Chester, Amra Jean, Karli Johnn, Noah Kossowsky, Leo Mermelstein, Hannah Monack and Maxwell Riseman.
“I particularly enjoyed seeing my students smile as they sang ‘Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer,’” high school choral director Janet Gillespie said. “In addition, while working on some challenging repertoire, they demonstrated great perseverance and ultimately created a memorable performance.”
The concert concluded with a performance of “Al shlosha d’varim” from the combined middle and high school choruses and middle school soloist Ellie Knudson.
