Main Street School Raises Over $9,000 During Heart Healthy Week

Main Street School Raises Over $9,000 During Heart Healthy Week

During the week of February 9 through 13, students at Main Street School participated in Heart Healthy Week, a schoolwide initiative focused on wellness, fitness, and community service through the American Heart Association’s Kids Heart Challenge.

Throughout the week, students engaged in heart healthy activities including jumping rope, basketball, and other fitness challenges designed to promote physical activity and teach the importance of taking care of their hearts. The Kids Heart Challenge encourages students not only to build healthy habits, but also to develop empathy and support individuals affected by heart disease.

In addition to participating in school-based activities, students and families had the opportunity to contribute to the American Heart Association through optional online fundraising. Participation in fundraising was not required to take part in the week’s events, ensuring that all students could fully engage in the experience.

The school community also showed its spirit in meaningful ways. On Wednesday, students and staff wore red to represent heart awareness. On Friday, the school community wore Unity Day shirts or orange to demonstrate school pride and unity.

Thanks to the generosity and enthusiasm of the Main Street School community, a total of $9,193.53 was raised to support the American Heart Association. Donations will continue to be accepted for the remainder of February.

Principal Joyce Chapnick praised the efforts of the entire MSS community, noting the tremendous pride in seeing students “jump their hearts out” for such an important cause. She also extended special thanks to Laura Shaw, physical education teacher, for her leadership in organizing and guiding this meaningful experience for students.
