Annual School Budget and Board Trustee Election

The 2026-2027 Budget Vote and Election of three (3) members of the Board of Education for the period of July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2029 will take place on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.

Role of the Board of Education

Each year, residents of the Irvington Union Free School District vote to elect members of the Board of Education. School board trustees are community volunteers who help guide the district’s policies, budget oversight and long-term planning to support student success. The Board of Education is responsible for:

  • Establishing district policies and goals
  • Adopting the annual school district budget
  • Hiring and evaluating the Superintendent

Irvington Board of Education 2026-27 Trustee Candidates

For the 2026-27 school year, the Irvington Board of Education has three vacant three-year terms. Registered voters of the Irvington UFSD community will be asked to vote for three candidates. Below are the three community members who are running for election. Voters will also have the opportunity to write in candidates.

Brian Friedman 

Dympna Kenny 

Dympna Kenny has been a resident of the district for 12 years and is the parent of three children, including one graduate. She is completing her first term on the board and currently serves as First Vice President of the IUFSD Board of Education.

Born in Ireland, Dr. Kenny earned a degree in Biochemistry from Trinity College Dublin and completed a PhD in Molecular Cell Biology at King's College London. Before moving to New York, she held academic research positions in California and Florida as a research scientist.

Prior to serving on the Board, Dr. Kenny spent eight years in various leadership roles on the PTSA Executive Committee, including Co-President  and also served as a board member of the Irvington Education Foundation.  

Rachael Maglienti 

Rachael Maglienti has been a resident of Irvington since 2013, where she lives with her husband and two children (Classes of ’27 and ’29). Over the past decade, she has been an active volunteer and is grateful to have had this opportunity, most recently in the role of Executive Vice President of the Irvington PTSA.

Rachael brings strong leadership and community service experience, having served on the St. Barnabas Church Vestry and as a team leader with Hearts and Homes for Refugees, where she supported the resettlement of multiple refugee families. Professionally, she was a Project Manager specializing in construction project management software implementation and data management across both New York City public sector projects and with Oracle Primavera.

She holds a BS in Applied Mathematics from Union College and an MA in Urban Planning from NYU.
